Wonderful Job!
Product Name: S-Deluxe Set

Just wanted to send a note thanking you for the great pickups. My 1976 Strat sounds the best it ever has. I had put in a set of first gen Fender noiseless pickups and they didn't have the sparkle. The original pickups were noisy and thin.Your pickups, each one, all sound fantastic in my guitar. That's the first time I have ever had all three pickups sound great, usually there's one that just doesn't cut it.Wonderful jobNorman G

The Tele in my head
Product Name: Modern T- Set

In a world where almost nothing is as good as billed, I cannot compliment you enough on your fine pickups. I purchased a Modern T-Set for my Telecaster and they brought it to life and have made the guitar what I knew it could be and more. I finally have the Telecaster I always heard in my head and always wanted. I received my guitar back from my luthier last evening and promptly took it out to a cabin in the woods where I played on the deck, under the moon with only the sound of water rushing from the creek below - no hum from your pickups. I finally have the Telecaster I always heard in my head and always wantedTo anyone considering these pickups - and I know there are so many tastes, opinions and preferences as to tone and sound - but in terms of sheer fidelity and sound quality and tone… I have never heard anything like these. I have been on a 25 year quest for tone and I have heard them all. I have never heard passive pickups that sound so alive. These pickups offer so much articulation - ability to hear notes ring from each string. Such clarity. There is tremendous touch sensitivity - hammer-ons, pull offs… If you fingerpick, these pickups offer you great sound quality for the nuances. They truly are very musical pickups. The closest way to describe these pickups is to say they reminded me of playing my buddy’s $5,000 Alembic Jerry Garcia style guitar. That guitar has active pickups and reveals your playing - good and bad - and forces you to be better and also focus on what you are doing. These JBEs have that same clear, articulate, toneful quality. And they are so alive and real sounding. And my guitar still sounds like a Telecaster. No hum, but not a humbucker. A Telecaster, only more so; richer, more powerful, more clear, more articulate. The “I”m not a humbucker guy” hesitation was eviscerated by these pickups. My buddy (a percussionist who is an audiophile but does not play guitar) marveled at the glorious sound coming from my 1989 Fender Champ 25 amp - running the guitar straight into the amp, no pedals. We had both thought the amp sounded a bit anemic before these pickups. These pickups bring your tone control into play big time. I’ve never used the tone control much. The volume knob is also a powerful tone shaper on this guitar. The bridge pickup has all you want from a Tele except the noise and ZERO “Ice Pick.” Just rich twang. Blindfolded, you say “that’s a Telecaster” if someone plays the bridge only. (That’s why many buy a Tele, I guess.)The neck pickup gets smoky without getting muddy. The clarity of the neck pickup is literally amazing. Jazz can credibly be played on this thing all night.I should add that I bought the Joe Barden bridge, as well. I’m like the traditional 3 saddle bridge and I thought the upgrade was worth the cost. It works great and I would recommend this as an add-on.All told, a $300 investment in a guitar I already owned gave me a guitar I would covet… except I own it. Pinch me that I can go play this thing and have this tone any time I want. One other personal note of recommendation:I put these pickups into a Fender “Baja” Telecaster (the 60’s one with the nice, big maple neck). The Baja comes stock from Fender with a 4-way switch rather than the ususal 3-way switch. That fourth position is the ultimate Secret Weapon: both pickups together in SERIES - connected together rather than working independently. It gives you about a 20% output boost over the two pickups together in parallel. This setting is amazing - very ballsy and powerful and it integrates the two pickups so well. And as a bonus, when you go to solo, you flip it to that position and leave the volume knob alone - you have the power you need to solo. The “in series” position would turn a Tele into a formidable slide guitar (forcing me to now go learn the chops). I cannot recommend a 4-way switch more highly on a Telecaster - any Telecaster, but big time with these pickups.Frank, you told me I’d love these pickups and you could not have been more correct. I could barely lavet the house for work today; all I wanted to do is sit and play this thing. And when I ordered these on the phone, the President of the company said “Thank you for your order.” I am in a family business and I appreciate every opportunity I get. It meant a lot to me to get a sincere thank you. And in a “farm to table / know your farmer” / Craft Brewed / Artisinal world, it’s nice to deal with a specialist-boutique company. Solid people. Solid company. The best pickups on earth? Yeah. I’ll hear the argument.Thank you, Frank.Michael KHappy Valley, PA

Gatton: The Way to Tele!
Product Name: Gatton T-Style Pickups

I got a set of Gatton T-Style Pickups from JBE upon their recommendation after I explained the style of music that I play and want to play on my guitar. I have been playing for 25 years and I have rarely departed from stock (mainly vintage) configurations. At first I was hesitant to replace the aftermarket vintage-style pickups since I prefer their clarity and feel of low output pickups: the clear low-mids, solid attack and rich highs that are hallmarks of lower output pickups. I initially thought that the Gatton pickups would have too much "output" or would be too Hi-Fi for my taste. Thankfully, I could not have been more mistaken. The pickups were easy to install and fit perfectly into the bridge plate and the neck pickup into the pickguard. The printed instruction sheet (in color!) was straightforward and made for a quick and painless installation. The diagram is clear and the leads were explained in a way that a novice could easily follow.I plugged in and to my dismay I discovered that there was no sound. I checked the volume knob to make sure it was all the way up, and it was, but I heard no sound. And then I started playing and ringing out of the amp was the glorious sound of my guitar. To hear "my guitar" is an important distinction to make because the woods of this particular guitar really do enhance whatever pickup is in the guitar and apparently these pickups enhance the woods in the guitar. Still, there is no 60-cycle hum that I have come to expect from "single coil" pickups. While these are dual-coil pickups, they sound like single coils. There is great note definition yet they retain that vintage feel, but with more of it. Describing this effect the best way I can, clean bends are easily executed without fear of losing steam toward the end of the bend. Compared to the original pickups these are a little more fully voiced; nothing is lost when bending notes and it just has that perfect balance of high end and mids. It does not push the front of the amp too hard but when introducing a bit of volume it has good bite while not sounding shrill or distorted. These pickups sound great through either a dark or bright amp due to the amount of flexibility these afford. Again, it is as though I still have a set of vintage single coil pickups but with more of it.I also noted that there is more reason to use the volume and tone knobs. Tone control really impacts the tone of the pickup in a useful way. I am using "50's wiring" in my Tele and the volume and tone knobs play a vitally important part in expressing the extent of the tonal range of any pickups, but these in particular seem to be more "forgiving", or have more usable range. Reducing the tone knob even halfway still leaves me with usable tone - more than enough to tame a bright amp while still ringing clear. When playing overdriven the mids and articulation of the highs are not at all lost, but lows and mids retain bold presence and carries mid- and high overtones beautifully in wonderful singing sustain through to a nice decay. I have the sense that I can depend on the voice to be present when and where I need it. What I mean by that is the tone is consistent but not boorish in that it is not hi-fi or sterile, but is very articulate and usable; the notes tend to blossom into sustaining glory and brings with it the resonance of the woods in the guitar. And resonance is really important with this particular guitar, since it really feels alive. This guitar does not blanket the desirable tones at all and the pickups are really compatible in every way. When playing with overdrive and into distortion, these pickups really sing! The vintage pickups I had in the guitar sounded admittedly stellar but did not handle distortion in the same way these Gatton pickups do. These have that vintage feel I have come to love but there is added dimension and playability with these that is just really appealing and fun to play; there is more fullness and presence and the notes are not squished or overly compressed. Try these with a Fuzz Face and you will be pleasantly surprised!Being my first encounter with JBE, I will say that I am incredibly pleased and will look forward to outfitting my Strat in the future.I will gladly and with a good conscience highly recommend to anyone who is looking for fresh inspiration out of their guitar to look no further than JBE - for both their exceptional products and for their excellent customer service. Here's one more star for a stellar experience: *

Wow! Just Wow!
Product Name: Gatton T-Set

I put a set of Gatton style JBEs in my G&L ASAT and I swear, I fell in love with my guitar all over again. The stock pickups for the G&L are really great, don't get me wrong, but I always felt they were lacking.Once I installed the JBEs, there was a brief moment when I thought that it was possible I received a defective set-- the amp that had previously hummed with my G&L plugged in made no noise now. That is, of course, until I strummed out a chord.I truly think "blown away" is the only appropriate term to describe the first time hearing these pickups in person. There's gotta be a lethal level of audio fidelity. If there was, these pickups would be outlawed.I paired them with a matching JBE 3-saddle bridge. The scoop on the sidewall really shows a level of obvious forethought. A design choice made to accommodate us finger-pickers is always a welcome sight. With a little bit of re-jiggering, I found the scoop also makes volume swells a heck of a lot easier too. I swapped the orientation of the control plate on my G&L around (usually selector, volume, tone; to volume, tone, selector) and the scoop lines up perfectly with the volume knob. I couldn't have been happier.I've been listening to Danny Gatton play all my life, (my dad used to play Unfinished Business to me as a baby) yet never really dug too deep into his gear. I'm glad I did, otherwise I'd have never known the true secrets to unlocking "the tone".If you guys are ever hiring, let me know! Haha--Rory • Electronics Technician

Ten years after...
Product Name: Gatton Tele pickups

Thought I'd leave a review after ten years of using these.Great pickups, hard to imagine anything better. I got the Modern T bridge p/u about 5 years ago, much happier with it than the original. The neck p/u is just beautiful. They respond so well to tweaking the tone pot, never turning muddy. Some people say they're pricey, I think they're a total bargain for what you get.

Amazing upgrade to my Ric bass
Product Name: R4000

Frank -Seriously. These pickups are utterly remarkable. Fantastic. AMAZING. They totally transformed the playability of my Ric.I used to play a Red Barchetta. Now I play a Lamborghini Testarossa.I can't thank you enough. Thank you , Thank You, THANK YOU!

John came in to JBE today for a surprise visit while in town. He remarked that he is still thrilled by the change in his Rick 4003 bass since he purchased the R4000 pickups as one of our first customers for them back in 2011.
They continue to grow in popularity among Ric bass players, primarily thru social media alone.

Well, it happened again!I had another gig last night, and the other guitarist in the band said that I really sound much better lately, and that I’m cutting thru the mix much better. And then the drummer said that I’ve never sounded better and that the notes are CLEANER and have more CLARITY!Keep in mind I’ve told no one that I’ve modified the Rick. This just keeps getting better and better! Thanks so much!-Mike

Product Name: bridge humbucker

I have been trying different brands of pickups, and have been mostly disappointed in what i have spent a lot of money on, during this trial period, to find a pickup for my production guitars. I am still trying different ones, as there are many to select from. What i can tell you is that this JBE blade humbucker for the bridge position, is absolutely amazing; it delivers the tone and crunch that i have been looking for, and i just might call the search over. Two thumbs up and five stars for this pickup.
